Are you looking for a 1080p projector that’s not only for sewing, but will visually WOW your family? Then, look no further than this Joval projector review.
Here at ProjectorSewing.com we review many projectors for sewing and compare them. We pride ourselves in honest and thorough reviews of projectors for sewing.
We go through the headache of testing them and finding the duds so you don’t have to!
Joval sent us this projector to review, but all thoughts and opinions are our own.
Here is the summary of our findings, but read on for more of the juicy details and particulars!
Joval Briller 1080p Projector
The Joval Brille projector is a great mini projector for both sewing and movie night. It produces a bright, clear, and crisp image. The focus ability is a highlight of this projector. We recommend having at least 62″ from cutting table to ceiling to produce an A1 mat sized image. This projector can focus with as little as 36″, but image size is directly related to how high you can project from. Use coupon code 39RJTJK6 for a discount until December 28!
*Image size compared to the Vivimage Explore 2 and Alvar mini projectors at the same throw distance.
Overall Thoughts and Impressions
When I first pulled the Joval Briller from it’s fashionable and sleek, gray padded carry case, I wasn’t impressed with its size.
It is slightly larger than a mini projector like the Alvar, but not a full-sized projector.
Somewhere in-between.
I also noticed the connection cables exited the back of the projector.
But…. Then, the projector continued to surprise me!
At every turn, there were features found on more expensive projectors packaged into this Joval mini projector.
The glass lens provides an exquisite focus ability that I haven’t found on previous mini projectors. The image had such clarity, I thought I was looking at a TV screen on my wall!
The image size was in the same class as other mini projectors, slightly larger.
The wireless connectivity of this projector is unparalleled to previous mini projectors. I seamlessly connected to my computer, iPad, and phone wirelessly.

What’s in the Box?
The Joval Briller projector comes with the projector, carry case, power cable, and remote.
Usually, mini projectors also come with an HDMI, but the cable is usually too short for sewing anyway.
Plus, after trying out the wireless connection options, you will have no need for an HDMI cable!
Native Resolution
This Joval projector has a native resolution of 1920×1080 pixels.
Yes, many native resolutions of 1080p work very well for sewing, but at least 720pixels are recommended.
The extra pixels don’t necessarily make it better for sewing, but it does make a difference for movie viewing!
Less issues have occurred when you are projecting from a native 1080p device.
Throw Ratio and Image Size
There is no published throw ratio in the listing besides 45”-150” with a minimum focus distance of 3.05 ft to 17.9ft.
I mounted the Joval projector for this review using a Nierbo ceiling mount attached to the wall at a distance of 56.5”.
This produced an image size of 23 3/8” x 41 5/8”, just larger than my A1 (24”x36” or 90cmx60cm) cutting mat.
This image size was great for children’s clothing, accessories, and most adult tops.
To get a larger image, just raise the projector. If you don’t have room to raise the projector, you can create a mirror setup to increase the throw distance.
At a distance of 62” (height I currently have my Vivimage Explore 2), I got an image size of 45 5/8” x 25.5”. This is larger than the image size I get with the Alvar, Acrojoy, and Vivimage Explore 2.
Ease of Calibration
Image clarity and complete focus to the outside edge helped to make calibration a breeze.
Connected by HDMI and then Miracast, I was able to connect to the projector.
Physical adjusting and tilting brought the projector into square for calibration. Zooming in Adobe was quick.
I found a calibration zoom of 33.8% at a distance of 56.5” creating a calibrated image that was 23 3/8” x 41 5/8” (59cm x 106cm).
Brightness and Contrast
The Joval projector touts a 9700 LED Lumen and 12,000:1 contrast ratio.
The projector was bright and clear for both patterns and video. The lines were crisp and colors were clear.
However, it is still best to use in a dim environment. Pattern lines were much more visible with lights off and curtains closed.
Connectivity
The simplicity of the wireless connections with the Joval will blow your socks off!
You do need to connect the projector to your home WiFi signal. Once you do, it is easy to connect wirelessly to any device.
I connected my Windows 11 laptop (native 1080p resolution) using Miracast. The image size did not shrink.
AirPlay on the projector seamlessly connected my iPad and then my iPhone.
Finally, there is also a DLNA wireless connection. This is mostly used for accessing a media library on your computer and displaying it on devices, but is a great option!
Connectivity is not only great for sewing, but make this a great home movie projector too!
Especially if you are an iPad user, then this projector is a great wireless option!
Don’t forget to checkout using Affinity Designer 2 for iPad to make many alterations, calibrate, and zoom on!
Body Design
At first, I was disappointed that the HDMI cable exists the back of the projector, but with the connectivity options, I don’t think that’s a problem.
For this projector, I’d consider installing a power outlet in my ceiling. Then, I’d mount this projector as high as possible.
The cooling vents are located on the sides of the projector and should not be blocked.
The vents even have a cleanable dust filter!
You usually don’t see removable filters in mini projectors. This is a great way to keep your projector dust free and working longer.
Movie Projector
Do you want to use your projector for movies too? Then, the Joval 1080p projector is a great choice!
The native 1080p resolution is much better than projectors with lower resolution. You will feel like the projector is an extension of your TV rather than a sorry substitution.
Recommendation of Joval Projector Review
I do recommend the Joval 1080p projector for sewing. The image clarity and connectivity are great qualities for sewing with a projector.
It is in the “mini projector” class, so expect to get an image size of around an A1 mat (24”x36” or 90cmx60cm) at most ceiling heights.
The higher up you mount, the larger your image will be!
The Joval projector has a minimum focus distance of 36”, but your image will not be very large at that distance.
I recommend having at least 62 inches from the ceiling to the cutting surface for this projector.
If you don’t have the vertical space, you can look into a short throw projector, ultra-short throw projector, or mirror setup.
How to Mount the Joval Projector
To mount the Joval Briller projector, you will need any single-point universal projector mount. The one I recommend and used is listed below. You can mount it from the wall if you cutting table is next to the wall. It can also be mounted directly above the cutting surface pointing down.

Alternatives to the Joval
Not sure if the Joval projector is for you? Here are some other options.
For another 1080p projector, we recommend the Vankyo Leisure 470 Pro. It has a smaller body design, but requires a minimum of 55″ from lens to cutting surface.
Another mini projector option is the Alvar 9000 lumen mini projector. It is a native 720p projector. The image is not quite as clear as the Joval, but is a great projector for sewing!
