Have you ever thought, “I can’t drill holes, so I can’t use a projector for sewing”? I have had some friends tell me that lately and that can’t be further from the truth! Using one of these portable mounts for mini projectors, you can be up and sewing in no time! No drilling required!

There are many ways to use a projector for sewing that do not require mounting to the wall or ceiling. These are also great ideas for “popup” sewing stations. That means if you can’t leave your sewing setup out all the time, then these are a great option!

1. Tripod or Boom Stand

Using a tripod is probably one of the most common ways to have a portable sewing station. Tripods are easy to setup and take down. However, doing a few things right will make the difference in your sewing experience.

Tripods are great options for mini projectors (like the Acrojoy), pico projectors, and mini short throw projectors (like the Optoma ML1050ST).

Those who use tripods will typically cut on the floor next to the tripod legs. The height of the projector will determine how large your projected cutting area is. The higher you can raise the projector, the larger the image. This is called increasing the “throw distance”.

Getting a tripod or boom stand with a horizontal movement bar will get the projector straight over the cutting area away from the tripod legs.

Here are some examples of recommended tripod as the ones below:

2. Tension Rod and Clamp

No holes, no problem! Using a tension rod, you can take full advantage of your ceiling height. This portable mounts for mini projectors setup is also a great option for leaving in one place, but not drilling into the ceiling or wall. This setup is ideal for renters using a mini projector.

I have seen people use something as simple as a shower curtain rod connected to a ball-joint clamp. Others use a tension rod that is more ideal for the weight of a projector.

An example of a rod used is something similar to this task tools rod:

3. Overhead Clamp

This idea is similar to the previous idea, but doesn’t use a tension rod. This is an overhead mount that clamps onto a bookshelf or shelf near your cutting table. This is another great no holes option for mini and pico projectors. Most short throw projectors are too heavy for something like this, with the exception of the Optoma ML750ST/ML1050ST.

This clamp pole mount option is similar to the tension rod, but instead is clamped to a counter or cutting table. This can be one way to setup and take down your sewing area if needed.
