A bright Pico projector with 4 hours of battery?! That is a main feature of the AAXA P6X pico projector. It sounds like a great match for sewing. But, is it really what it is hyped to be?
AAXA is a technology company that has been producing “micro” or “Pico” projectors since 2008. The AAXA P6X is the “Worlds Brightest Battery Powered Projector”.
And this was a bright pico projector with a powerful battery! Let’s dive in a see if this is “the one” for your sewing room!
AAXA P6X Pico Projector
AAXA P6X Pico Projector is a great portable option for sewing! The small size and battery make this a projector on the go. The throw ratio of 1.2 also will create a decent working space for most sewing enthusiast..
Overall Thoughts and Impressions
At first glance, this projector has a sleek look and a nice small size. If you are familiar with Pico projectors though, this projector is a little bit larger than most Pico and pocket projectors. But, it is also a lot brighter than most Pico projectors I have seen. The image size is great too!
No dangling power cable sounds like a dream to projector sewist. Battery powered projectors can be nice, but you will still need to plug them in for charging from time to time. If you sew a lot, plan on having this plugged in frequently.
I found that in the brightest setting the projector lasted roughly 1.5 hours. In ECO mode, you are able to get closer to 4 hours. The lines were still visible on the pattern in ECO mode with some ambient light in the room.
It doesn’t have built in Wi-Fi, so you will need to use an HDMI cable or get a separate casting device such as Anycast or Chromecast.
Most Pico projectors and battery-powered projectors will cost more than the typical “mini” projectors. You pay for the compact, portable design, and the addition of a battery. This projector will cost you around $359, but is reasonably priced for its class of projector.

What Size Cutting Area (Throw Ratio)
The AAXA P6X projector produces an image size that is great for sewing. The advertised throw ratio is 1.2. In testing, I got a 1.19 throw ratio at 57” which is spot on for the advertising!
With 57 inches of “throw” (distance between the lens and cutting table), I got an image that was 26 ½” x 47 7/8”.
Curious about what size image you can get? Measure the distance from your cutting table to the ceiling. Now subtract about 8” for mounting. This is your lens-to-table distance.
Example: If I measured my table to ceiling distance to be 62”.
62”-8” =54”
Now to figure out how wide your projection will be, take the distance and divide it by the throw ratio.
Example: 54” divided by 1.2 (throw ratio) =45” wide
The aspect ratio of this projector is 16:10, with a 45” wide projection you would have close to 28 1/8” depth.
The minimum focus distance is 20 inches, which would give you a screen that is about 16 5/8” wide. The maximum distance is 90 inches or 7.5ft. The maximum distance will give you an image that is about 75 inches wide.
I do not recommend mounting this projector on the ceiling and projecting to the floor unless you have ceilings that are less than 7.5ft.
Ease of Calibration
Calibrating this projector went smoothly and easily. The projector has an “on edge” offset and should be placed directly above the edge of the cutting table. It can be mounted on the wall or ceiling using a single-point mount.
Physically tilting and moving the projector to make it square is the preferred method of calibrating, but the AAXA P6X has a convenient keystone adjustment right from the remote. This makes fine-tuning your calibration as easy as pushing a button.
Focus is done manually on the side of the projector. Make sure to focus your projector once you have mounted it.
Brightness and Contrast
Usually, Pico projectors are not always very bright, but this one was surprisingly bright. Even using the ECO mode, which was not as bright, the lines were easy to see both with lights off and lights on. This was much brighter than the AAXA P400, which we have reviewed before and found not bright enough for sewing.
In my testing, I found this projector to have about 335 LUX Lumens more than the Vivimage Explore 2, a popular sewing mini projector. I do not used standardized equipment, so this was for comparison purposes only! But, the image does seem to be brighter (in standard mode) than many mini projectors.
Connectivity
The best built-in connection to your device for sewing is the HDMI port. If you want a wireless option, you will need to purchase a casting device separately.
Body Design
The AAXA P6X has a great body design for mounting for sewing. All of the cables exit the side of the projector. It is small and lightweight, which makes it easy to handle.
Focus is a manual slide on the left side of the projector near the HDMI port. Keystone can be adjusted digitally using the remote.
Using the AAXA P6X for Movies
Do you want a sewing projector that can double as home entertainment? The AAXA P6X is a good on-the-go option for viewing photos, music, and videos. You can download the video right onto a USB drive or SD card and play it directly from the projector.
While the sound and colors cannot match larger and more expensive projectors, this little package does a great job delivering!
The built-in speakers delivered good sound quality for such a small projector. You won’t be disappointed in watching movies and presentations on the go.
I imagine taking this battery-powered projector camping and enjoying a movie under the stars! Even taking this to a business meeting or teaching demonstration would be a great use!
Important Features of the AAXA P6X
It is important to have the necessary features in a good projector for sewing. Focus can be adjusted using a slide wheel on the side of the projector. The keystone can be adjusted using the remote control.
It is best to charge the projector in the “off” position. You can also use the battery to charge your phone or other small devices. Just switch the projector to the “Charge” position.

Recommendation
The AAXA P6X Pico Projector is a lightweight, bright, and portable option for sewing. The “on edge” offset makes this a great option for mounting to the wall or a tripod. It also has a decent image size with a throw ratio of 1.2, which will work for most sewing projects with enough distance. We recommend having at LEAST 43.5 inches between the lens and cutting surface or 51.5 inches from ceiling to cutting surface for an image size of about 22.5” x 36”. Anything less than that will make cutting out pieces more difficult.
Having a fully-charged battery-powered projector isn’t a bad idea if you live in an area that loses power frequently! While I was testing this projector, a windstorm caused a power outage.
Unfortunately, the battery on the projector had just died, so I was unable to keep cutting out my project. But, if it was charged, I could have kept cutting out sewing projects to my heart’s content!
Now, if we could only get battery-powered sewing machines! Ha-ha!
This projector would be a good companion for anyone wanting to use a tripod setup. The “on edge” offset will project the image away from the base of the tripod. Boom arms can extend the reach of the projector beyond the legs even more. You can also use the battery for powering the projector and plug it in when not in use!

Alternative Projectors to AAXA P6X
Looking for an alternative projector? I recommend the Sovboi mini projector as an alternative to the AAXA P6X. It has a low throw ratio of 1.24 and can be purchased for under $100. However, it is not battery-powered, not as bright, and will need to be centered above your cutting surface. Check out the full Sovboi review here.
Another alternative to the AAXA P6X is another pico projector the Anker Nebula Capsule Max. Make sure to look at the MAX, as the other models aren’t as great for sewing. The Anker Nebula Capsule Max is a small portable projector that can also me used for sewing, but is priced higher than the AAXA P6X.

How to Mount the AAXA P6X for Sewing
The AAXA P6X uses a single-point mount. This means that any universal single-point projector mount can be used for this projector.
This Pico projector can be mounted on the wall or ceiling using a universal single-point projector mount pointed to the cutting surface as shown in the picture below.
Due to the small size and battery power, this is a great option for portable setups as well. These include using a tension rod, tripod, or several DIY solutions.

Conclusion
The AAXA P6X Pico Projector is a bright, battery-powered, Pico projector that works well for sewing. The “on edge” offset allows you to place it directly above the edge of your cutting surface to produce a decent-sized image.
The AAXA P6X had no difficulties calibrating and presented no aspect ratio issues when connected to my HP Windows 11 laptop.
The best connection available for the projector is an HDMI port, but a casting device such as Chromecast, Apple TV, or Anycast can be added to make it Wi-Fi.
The small, lightweight design makes this a great portable projector and a great mounting projector.
This projector would be a great companion to anyone wishing to use a tripod projector setup with the option of using battery power and plugging in when not in use.
